Meet Antik Batik: Super Sparkly Upscale Boho

I have to confesss that until I saw Antik Batik over on ethical fashion retailer Shop Accompany, I had no idea they were considered to be an ethical fashion brand. But lucky for all of us fair fashion lovers, they are.

Founder Gabriella Cortese created the company with the hope of preserving the artisanal embroidering, printing and hand-weaving techniques she saw in her travels, meaning that each Antik Batik piece is handmade by artisans who are expert in their craft.  From what I understand, the brand was a pioneer in its ethical approach, working with qualified artisans in Indonesia, in Peru and then in India in order to manufacture entirely handmade clothes and accessories as far back as 15 years ago, long before it made sense to brag about such a thing.

To me, these are the kind of standout, truly special pieces you could hold onto and pass along to your daughters and their daughters, not to mention the fact that their insouciant sparkle is perfect for the upcoming holiday season (is it too soon to say that?).

Here are a few more pieces I'm coveting:

Black Jeans, Red Flats, Baby Bump {Easy Maternity Style}

black leather moto jacket, pop of color, maternity style, ethical fashion, my fair vanity

This little leather jacket of mine is going to propel me right through fall, I can tell. It just makes everything work, and when you have a ginormous 8 months pregnant belly to deal with, that's pretty impressive.

Here I'm wearing secondhand everything except for the jeans, which are my faves, the Verdugo Ultra Skinny by Paige Denim in Black Dahlia.  They're made in the USA and super comfy. You can find a bunch of different washes at Piperlime and Bloomingdale's, and I love these dark green ones!

The shoes are from Reddz Trading, the sweater is from Ebay, and the jacket is from Secondi.

Full disclosure: these jeans are totally not buttoned, and I was wearing them while on my way to purchase (finally) some black maternity jeans that I could button. I held out for far too long on the maternity jeans thing, and now that I have a few pairs, I feel like I have been torturing myself out of sheer laziness, and it was not worth it.

I'm also wearing a 100% cotton, hand-loomed scarf that I acquired during my trip to Turkey-- I found a fair option for you in the "shop the look" below, but nothing could really match this beautiful, warm and oversize specimen of a scarf/sarong. It's actually the size of a beach towel and perfect for both sand and sun, winter wear, and long flights. It's my new security blanket, basically.

Shop My Secondhand Look for 20% off at the Real Real with code GETAWAY

I recently posted about how I'm transitioning summer shift dresses for fall, and since my entire outfit was secondhand from local retailer Secondi, I put together a way that anyone can get the look, regardless of whether they happen to live near northwest DC. I give you, The RealReal.

The RealReal is a nifty little online consignment space I've recently discovered, and they just so happen to be having a Columbus Day 20% off promo with code GETAWAY, so now is a great time to check them out. But I literally mean now because the promotion ends this evening-- sorry!

You can shop the items above and below by clicking on them, btw. There are ankle boots and a dress from Rag and Bone and a leather moto jacket by JBrand that I think is the jam.

Black Moto Jacket {Fall Style Transitions}

Given my ever-expanding belly, shift dresses have become a wardrobe staple, and now that the air is crisp, it's time to transition those flowy dresses for fall. The trick to shift dresses for both the pregnant and non-pregnant is proportion. This shift is a little too big for me in general, which is comfy for my belly, but that means it needs a short, fitted jacket to give it some definition, proportion and structure.

I picked up the one I'm wearing (and the jacket, actually) secondhand at Secondi. I used to belt every shift I own, nipping them in at the waist to create a waist, essentially. Now, I lose the belt and boom, prego dress.

It's been my preference to avoid almost all maternity wear, not just out of vanity (I hate most of it!), but bc I think it's more eco-friendly to continue to shop for items like the shift in this post that can be worn pre-and post-pregnancy as well. That's also why Hatch Collection is so far the only mama-wear that has appealed to me-- highly recommend checking them out

I can tell this little black moto jacket is going to be a key staple for the final weeks of my pregnancy, but it could certainly be anyone's fall go-to piece!

Last but not least, lest one of these photos fool you, my friends: I am very, very, pregnant.

Bomber Jackets

3 eco-friendly bomber jacket

One fall item I'm feeling very tempted to rock lately is a bomber jacket. They're a little bit trendy, but I think they can bring a sporty twist to even the most polished outfit while still keeping the look clean and current. What do you think?

See how I styled this 100% organic cotton bomber (center) in Northern Virginia Magazine with heels and a midi-length pencil skirt, for example. Natalie from The Fashionably Broke and I each selected two key fall items and whipped up two ways to wear them this season-- please do click over to see what we picked! And don't worry, each item I selected passes the fair test, of course.

But let's talk about these bombers I found from center, then clockwise from top left:
